Hurriyet Daily News: Minimum wage setting increasingly driven by politics as opposed to sound economics

Hurriyet Daily News, Turkey’s leading newspaper, featured JustJobs Network’s annual joint report, GLOBAL WAGE DEBATES: POLITICS OR ECONOMICS? and quoted JJN Executive Director Sabina Dewan. Speaking to the media at the JJN Summit in Ankara, Sabina Dewan said, “There are 3.4 billion people globally transitioning out of poverty. This low-income population can boost the ranks of the global middle class and drive a new wave of inclusive growth, but to make their exit from poverty permanent they need higher wages and stronger safety nets.”

The conference entitled “Squaring Higher Wages and Competitiveness” was co-hosted by Prakash Loungani of the Jobs & Growth group at the IMF and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.
