JustJobs Network Executive Director Sabina Dewan recently attended a high-level meeting on “Development Cooperation and Partnerships for Delivering Decent Work” at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The event was co-hosted by the Permanent Missions of Angola and Belgium, along with the ILO.
The meeting was a working lunch where participants made interventions based on their research. The opening featured welcome remarks from the Co-Chairs of the ‘Group of Friends of Decent Work’ – H.E. Mr. Manuel Vicente, Vice President of Angola, and H.E. Mr. Alexander Dee Croo, Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium – and a brief introduction by the ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder.
The introductory session was followed by Ministerial interventions and an interactive dialogue with ‘The Group of Friends of Decent Work’. In her intervention, Ms. Dewan emphasized the need to reimagine economic growth and invest in people to raise skill levels and productivity. She also spoke about the need for new models of industrial relations, employment-based growth and solid empirical research to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
