The Centre for Gender Analysis (CGA) launch event was a special occasion marked by insightful discussions and impactful stories. Sabina Dewan, President & Executive Director of JustJobs Network, warmly welcomed attendees to the momentous CGA launch event, made even more special as it coincided with JJN’s 10th anniversary. In her opening address, Sabina underscored the importance of considering women’s needs at the design stage of programs, rather than addressing them as an afterthought.

Ms. Arti Ahuja, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, shed light on the increasing quality of women’s work and their growing workforce participation, emphasizing the positive trends in this domain

Ms. Uma Mahadevan, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka, joined us virtually, and shared insights into the unique Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between CGA and the Karnataka government. She specifically highlighted the Shakti Scheme, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing free bus mobility to women and girls, launched earlier in the year.

JustJobs Network researchers provided snapshots of the research work already underway at the Centre for Gender Analysis, laying out a strong case for why the approach taken by CGA is novel and innovative. 

Anurag Behar, CEO of Azim Premji Foundation, engaged in a thought-provoking discussion with Ms. Arti Ahuja on the role of the state in enhancing women’s economic empowerment, shedding light on effective strategies and potential avenues for improvement.

Ms. Sabina Dewan and Dr. Pronab Sen, former Chief Statistician of India, delved into the significance of improved data collection in making women and their work more visible within the economic landscape, contributing to informed policy decisions.

The captivating panel discussion titled “Changing Aspirations, Realizing Dreams: Stories from the field” featured Nandini, Sheetal, Anchal, and Dharminder, who shared inspiring narratives that resonated with the audience, making it one of the day’s most impactful sessions.

Nandini, a 14-year-old talented self-taught painter, shared her artistic gift and offered her paintings as tokens of appreciation to our special guests, adding a unique touch to the event.

The final panel, “Tilting governance toward greater gender parity,” featured notable speakers including Ms. Shrayana Bhattacharya, Dr. Mathangi Krishnamurthy, Ms. Shalini Sinha, and Mr. Prasanth MP, who explored effective strategies for achieving gender equality and enhancing opportunities for women.

Hon. Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, inaugurated the Centre for Gender Analysis by lighting the ceremonial lamp. In his speech the Minister called for working to create an Indian model of women empowerment which aims towards a just society and acts as a model for the world.
