ABOUT THIS

In June 2024, JJN was part of a roundtable discussion hosted by KPMG International to explore the existing policy mechanisms and potential policy opportunities in the Global South for effective labour market participation of youth.

Key highlights:

  • Youth population in the Global South must be correctly skilled for the future of work
  • Approaches such as expanding apprenticeship schemes, improving access to digital tools, and making policies inclusive of informal economy can help make skilling more effective.
  • Improvement in public sector infrastructure and educational systems is critical to improve access to opportunities
  • Structuring policies and regulations around virtual immigration and shifting tax base away from labour taxes can support job creation policies.
